In addition to the main rules and guidelines below there are seperate rules when fishing Barry Ponds due to it being located on Dow Corning's land and rules for the Club Night Group.

Barry Rules.
Night Group Rules.

1) Licences and Permits
 

  1. All members must be in possession of a valid Environment Agency Rod licence and a club permit, before starting to fish. These must be produced on request from Club/E.A Bailiffs or other bona fide Club Members. Any person unable to produce either, or both, documents will be asked to leave Club waters.

  1. No member shall lend or transfer his/her membership to another person, on penalty of expulsion from the Club.

  1. Anyone suspended or banned from this, or any other, Angling Club for disciplinary reasons is not allowed to accompany any member whilst the latter is fishing Club waters.

  1. Unless stated otherwise the normal Coarse fishing season is from the 16th of June to the 14th of March inclusive.

  1. Fishing in weir pools on the River Taff between the weir and the downstream markers is strictly prohibited. (E.A By-Law).

  1. Members are allowed to fish with up to two rods. [NFG members are allowed to use 3 rods between certain hours {see NFG rules} to do so they must possess two rod licences (E.A By-Law).

  1. Two or more People fishing on a Family Permit are allowed a maximum of three rods in total and should limit themselves to one swim if a fishery is crowded.

  1. Family members under 12yrs of age do not require a club permit. However, they must be accompanied by an adult club member [over 18 yrs of age] at all times. The youngster must fish in the same swim as the adult and is limited to one rod only. Do not allow youngsters to wander unsupervised. [Swim access is limited for youngsters on St y Nyll see 11A].

2) Personal Conduct.  

  1. Members must respect the environment and minimise disruption of wildlife.

  1. Members must keep disturbance & noise to a minimum at all times, especially with regard to local residents living near club waters.

  1. Leaving an unattended rod and line with its bait, or hook, in the water is prohibited. (Max distance 15yds E.A By-Law).

  1. When fishing with two, or more, rods they should be placed so that the distance between the farthest butt ends does not exceed 3 metres [9'9"] (E.A By-Law).

  1. When parking and using private roads members must be considerate of others and not restrict parking or access.

  1. Members must shut gates behind them to safeguard property, crops and livestock on all club waters.

  1. Members shall at all times remain within the boundaries of club waters and must not trespass on adjoining land.

  1. Members must not interfere with the flow of water into, or out of, any club water or any device, that controls the flow of such water; without the permission of the committee.

  1. Fishing is permitted from the bank-side only and the use of boats, other than for authorised work on club waters, is not permitted.

  1. The use of night or dead lines is strictly prohibited.

  1. The sailing of model or remotely controlled craft is prohibited on all club waters, this includes bait boats.

  1. Swimming in all club waters is banned.

  1. Camping or Caravanning are both prohibited.

  1. No member is to carry firearms on club waters without the permission of the committee.

  1. No member is to carry an offensive weapon on club waters.

  1. No members are allowed to have dogs or any other animal accompany them whilst fishing club waters.

  1. The pruning of trees or undergrowth is prohibited unless sanctioned by the committee.

  1. The lighting of fires without the express permission of the committee is prohibited.

  1. Portable stoves may be used by all members except juniors. Their use at Pysgodlyn mawr, St y Nyll and Cadoxton ponds is prohibited. [Forestry commission, Plymouth estate and Dow Corning rulings]. Discretion is expected in dry conditions on all other waters.

  1. Radios, TV's etc are prohibited without the use of headphones or an earpiece.

  1. Members are expected to check the membership credentials of other persons fishing club waters whenever possible.

3) Night Fishing  

  1. Fishing on all club waters is only allowed between 1hr before sunrise and 1hr after sunset.

  2. No Night Fishing is allowed. Except for members of the GAC Night Fishing Group on Llantrithyd and Treoes Ponds only.

4) Tackle  

  1. Keep-nets must comply with E.A legislation i.e.:-

You must not use a keep net :-

    1. With any knotted meshes or meshes of metallic material.

    2. Or having any holes in the mesh larger than 25mm (internal circumference).

    3. Or less than 2 metres in length.

    4. Or with supporting rings or frames greater than 40cm apart (excluding the distance from the top frame to the first supporting ring).

    5. Or less than 120cm in circumference.

B.      When fishing all members must be in possession of a suitable landing net. When Pike or Carp fishing the net should be at least 36" [90cm] along the shortest arm of the triangle or in diameter. For Barbel fishing the net should be at least 30" [75cm] in the same dimensions.  

C.     When fishing all members must be in possession of a suitable hook disgorger.  

D.     When Carp/Pike fishing all members must be in possession of suitable forceps for removal of hooks if necessary.  

E.      The use of keep sacks is prohibited.  

F.      When fishing for Carp/Pike/Barbel etc a member must possess and use an unhooking mat.  

G.     The use of a gaff is prohibited (E.A By-law).  

H.     Lead weights are prohibited in all sizes up to 25gms unless an integral part of tackle, except split shot of No 8 or smaller. (E.A By-Law).  

5) Game Fish.  

A.    A Club Game permit is required to fish for migratory game fish [Salmon, Sea trout] on all club waters.  

B.      The Game fishing season will commence and cease according to the dates set by the Environment Agency. (E.A By-Law).  

C.     All Salmon, Sea Trout or Trout, hooked other than in the mouth must be returned to the water immediately. (E.A By-Law).  

D.     No more than two game fish shall be taken on any one day.  

E.      Trout under 12" long [30.5cm] must be returned.  

F.      Spinning is not allowed on the River Taff unless in possession of a Club Game permit.  

G.     Fly-fishing for Grayling and Brown trout is permissible on a club coarse permit but all fish are to be returned.  

H.     Fly-fishing for Grayling and Brown trout on the Taff is permissible between 15th March and 16th June subject to local by-laws.  

6) Fish Care.  [See 4A, B, C, D, E & F].  

A.     It is the responsibility of every member to ensure the welfare of any fish caught.  

B.      Bolt rigs and fixed method feeders are prohibited. [No fixed lead rigs]. Care must be taken with so-called "semi-bolt" rigs, if the hook link does not detach from the weight easily the rig is unacceptable. [Bailiff's decision is final].  

C.     The transfer of any species of fish to, or from, any water (owned by the club or otherwise) is strictly prohibited unless authorised by the committee. (E.A By Law).  

D.     No member shall remove any coarse fish, dead or alive, from any club water unless authorised by the committee.  

E.      The use of live fish as bait is strictly prohibited on all club waters.

F.      In adverse conditions the use of Keep nets may not be allowed. [As determined by Club Officials].  

G.     The use of Towels/Rags etc to hold fish, whether wet or dry, is prohibited.  

H.     It is recommended that no fish over 3lb [1.5kg] is kept in a keep net. [Sacks are banned] Large fish should be weighed, photographed etc and returned as soon as possible.  

I.        No large Carp are to be retained in nets or sacks. Such action will be construed as an attempt to steal fish and the person will be dealt with accordingly  

7) Litter.  

A.     Members are responsible for any litter in their swim, regardless of who left it there. All litter must be removed from the swim prior to fishing. Failure to do so may result in the member's expulsion from the club.  

B.      Any member caught deliberately depositing/leaving litter will be expelled from the club.  

C.     No tins are allowed on club waters. [Sweetcorn/Meat into a bait box before you go fishing].  

D.     All broken off tackle should be retrieved whenever possible.  

8) Special Rules applying to Cadoxton Ponds [Susan and Carol].  

A.     No fires or stoves.

B.     Only members of Glamorgan Anglers will be allowed to fish the lakes. [No friends/visitors].

C.     Junior members must be accompanied by an adult club member at all times.

D.     Site security demands that members obey any instructions from Dow Corning officials.

E.      Fishing is allowed from the marked swims only.

F.      No person should attempt to fish from or disturb wildlife in the reed bed conservation areas.

G.    Barbless hooks only.

H.     A maximum of 3kg of groundbait [including all particles, maggots, etc].

I.        No fish are to be transferred from one lake to the other under any circumstances.

      [Club stocking procedures accepted].

J.       Take a bag with you. Inspect your swim before you fish and remove any, and all, litter, old tackle etc before you start to fish. At the end of your session check that you have not left any litter – this includes cigarette ends etc !!! Failure to do so will result in a club ban.

K.    Alcohol is not permitted on any part of Dow Corning land and this includes the lakes area. No one will be allowed onto the land if deemed to be intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol/drugs etc.

L.      No bivvies are allowed.

M.   No nut or boilie baits are allowed on Carol's lake.  

9) Special Rules applying to Gribbles Covert.  

A.     Barbless hooks only.

B.     Due to the small size of the water, single rod [or pole] only.

C.     The use of Heavy Carp gear is to be discouraged.  

10) Special Rules applying to Pysgodlyn Mawr.  

A.     Boilies and Peanuts are banned as a hook bait or loose feed.  

11) Special Rules applying to St y Nyll.   [See 6J]

A.     No youngster under 12 is allowed anywhere on the lake except the Dam Wall swims when accompanied by an adult member, due to the danger of deep water/silt by the walkways.

B.     No Junior members are allowed on the lake unless accompanied by an adult.
