Thanks to long time member and former trustee of
the club, Mr. Geoffrey Patten (now a club director) he has provided
us with details and items from the club in the 50’s and 60’s. In
1962 the club subscriptions were Full Membership 27s 6d. and Juniors
10s. 0d. A Glamorgan River Board License then was 7s 6d. and allowed
you to fish for Salmon, trout, sewin and other freshwater fish.
Also in 1962 the list of club waters for coarse fishing were Barry
Reservoir, St-y-Nyll Ponds and the river Taff in Cardiff. We also
had trout fishing on the river Trothy, Clun Brook and the river Ely.
It was also interesting to see that the club program for
competitions during the year included several fly fishing events and
even a sea fishing match to go with the usual coarse fishing trips.
Our club headquarters in those days was at the Old Arcade Hotel,
Church Street in Cardiff and committee meetings were then on the
first Friday of each month. (the Old Arcade was also our
headquarters back in 1950). The old pint of Brains Dark must have
been just as good in those days!!

Some of the club trophies
that we still fish for today have been with the club since the
1920’s or even earlier. Below is an insight to some of their
origins.
“The Kenneth Lundie Memorial Cup”
This Cup was presented by the late Sir Donald Cory for perpetual
competition and is to be competed for on the River Trothy annually.
The winner of the cup shall be the possessor of the heaviest basket
of Trout. No undersized fish allowed.
“The S Lupini Memorial Cup”
This cup was presented by James Gibson Esq. and Vivian Care Esq. In
memory of the late Mr. Steve Lupini. The conditions, upon which this
cup was given, were that it is for perpetual competition annually on
club waters and only open to members who have attained the age of 50
prior to the date of the competition and must be fished for with
worm only.
“The E. Charles Pole Cup”
A beautiful silver cup that was very kindly presented to the club by
E Charles Pole Esq.,. for the heaviest basket of fish caught at the
annual outing, for perpetual competition.
“ The Arthur Bale Cup”
This was originally for the heaviest sea fish caught by rod and line
from shore, boat or pier.
“The Treseder Griffin Cup”
